Gucci watches are one of the preferred choices for Chinese millionaires who invest in designer timepieces, according to a study.

Along with Armani, Gucci is named by the Hurun Report among the most popular luxury watch brands of all.

This is the sixth time Hurun's Best of the Best research has been carried out - with Gucci said to be especially well-liked in China's largest and most prosperous cities.

The report also noted that there has been a 40 per cent increase in China's millionaires leaving the country - which could mean the rate of designer watch sales is set to soar in other nations.

Another luxury timepiece brand recognised by the study is Montblanc - the world-famous Swiss manufacturer - which is "liked" by rich city dwellers.

Gucci was founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci from a market stall in Florence, Italy.

It has gone on to become one of the world's most sought-after designer labels, with its pieces including luxury watches, handbags and clothes.
